As I’ve said on my other trips, I really like flying out of HIA. It’s close to home, easy to navigate, has friendly TSA agents, and since Fe’s aunt dropped us off, no parking fees (that’s my favorite part)!
Also, there were no problems getting to Philadelphia, which took about 40 minutes. The kids were unnerved by the small size of the plane though. The only hiccup we had was on the plane to Ireland. There was about a half hour delay on the ground for a replacement part. The pilot told us there was a tailwind, so we made up that delay and then some. Good thing I’m not the nervous type or I’d’ve been wondering about that part the whole flight!
We arrived in Dublin Airport at about 800 am, local time. At immigration (another stamp!) all five of us went up and he asked how long we’d be staying. Both Fe and I answered, “Two weeks,” and he waved us all through. Even Canada wasn’t that easy.
This was a busy day on four hours of sleep on an airplane seat (economy class). First we got a bus from the airport to the hotel. That took awhile because we have so many bags. They can only fit so much, and we couldn’t get on the first one. The second one was pretty full as well, but I think he took some pity on the five of us and let us on with everything. After we checked our bags at the Anchor House Bed & Breakfast, we went to the Dublin Zoo. The boys (Jason especially) like zoos, and we didn’t want the whole trip to be all about Viking settlements, English forts, Irish uprisings, and EU-Ireland economic policies. Well, some of us didn’t.
Swan Lake
Tonight, it’s dinner at Kylemore’s. Guess who picked that place? We’ll do some looking around, too.
